NASOPORE®
NASOPORE® nasal dressing is made of a fully synthetic biodegradable fragmentable foam. It is indicated for use after nasal interventions (for instance sinusitis, polyposis and epistaxis). NASOPORE® absorbs fluids, provides pressure to and supports the surrounding tissue. It prevents undesired adhesions.
This biologically inert foam is a highly interconnected porous structure with a rapid and high absorbent capacity (up to 25 times its weight).
NASOPORE® separates mucosal surfaces during the critical, early days of post sinus surgery when mucosal swelling is heightened. By keeping mucosal tissue separated, NASOPORE® prevents formation of post-surgical adhesions in the nasal cavity.

NASOPORE® provides gentle compression after surgery. By absorbing nasal fluids and blood, NASOPORE® slowly starts to fragment whilst still offering sufficient wound support during the critical healing period. During this period it does not swell and so will not hinder natural drainage. After fragmentation NASOPORE® will be drained from the nasal cavity via natural pathways without any pain.

Daily spraying with saline solution is recommended in the first week after surgery, to fasten the fragmentation and to reduce the risk of infection.
NASOPORE® is rectangular shaped and is available as Standard, Firm (USA: Forte) and Extra Firm (USA: Forte plus), in the sizes 4 and 8 cm. It can be easily cut to the appropriate size depending on the application.
- NASOPORE® Standard is used to prevent adhesions and to absorb fluids, whereas the NASOPORE® Firm provides more pressure and is intended to more mechanically support damaged tissues.
- NASOPORE® Extra Firm is denser than NASOPORE® Firm and is applied when injured tissue (for example in case of nose correction surgery, septoplasty) needs extra support and haemostatic activity.
It is shown that the removal of conventional nasal dressings are related to re-bleedings and thereby mucosal tissue damage. The use of biodegradable NASOPORE® avoids the risk of re-bleeding associated with removal. It is also shown that NASOPORE® is a potential carrier for steroids to aid in mucosal healing.
- Fully synthetic foam - clinically proven to be biologically inert
- Gentle compression during a period of 36 - 48 hours after insertion
- Biodegradable property results in rapid and uniform fragmentation
- Easily manipulated to allow optimum placement within the nasal cavity
- Keeps its integrity by retaining its position after insertion and no swelling
- Valuable wound support during the critical healing period
- Prevention of adhesions after nasal and sinus surgery - can be used to medialize the middle turbinate and septum - and prevent lateralization
- The unique structure has a proven high absorption capacity, being able to absorb up to 25 times its original weight
- No need for post-operative removal
- Atraumatic and comfortable for patients
- Independent trials show that Nasopore may function as a potential drug delivery carrier
